The supply vessel was way too large to shudder from the thunderous explosion caused by the RPG rocket that had all those nearby shaking and trembling uncontrollably, while their ear drums reverberated by the shockwave of the blast. As the crew reeled from fright, the dark cloud of smoke cleared to reveal a mass of mangled and twisted steel of what just seconds ago was the ship’s bridge – its control center. As the crew fought the fear their nerves had been beset with, their minds simultaneously tried with difficulty to render some form of clarity of the dire situation that had besieged them. People had just died within the bridge compartment! This was insane! How could this catastrophic occurrence have befallen them in this modern sea-faring age by wretched men with old treacherous ways? The crew’s minds were still focused on the carnage and the disheveled thoughts that permeated their brains, when in a heartbeat, automatic weapons fired in unison and a hailstorm of bullets clanked off metalwork structures way too close for comfort. The deadly barrage instantly brought their thoughts back to the fact they were in imminent danger. Never before had the freighter crew come under armed attack after multiple voyages within the same waterways they were cruising upon. Never before had they lost power to one of their engines either, which made them a most enviable target to the bedeviled pirate group presently attempting to take the ship and crew captive for ransom. With their gun muzzles blazing, the unmistakable sound of weapon’s fire rose above the loud wind noise that was a constant aboard the large ship as she plowed through the otherwise placid waters. Besides the numbing question that rose to the forefront of what a freighter crew could possibly do to protect themselves from the armed cutthroats who were on the ship’s main deck, was a horrendous panic that virtually took over the crew’s minds. Soon the foreign devils would seize the ship and demand money for both ship and lives. That was the very least the crew knew would be the outcome of their disastrous situation. Whether it was just fortunate happenstance or providential there were several men among the crew, who were ex-military types. Nothing as fanciful as Special Forces, yet men of stout character possibly enough to make a difference whether anyone would escape this menacing ordeal. It least that was the hope to some of the crew. The ship carried but a small cache of firearms for security reasons, but would the armament in the hands of just a few crewmembers be adequate to fight off the marauders – modern-day Arab pirates? Survival became the overwhelming instinct as they resolved to go down fighting rather than capitulate. It was what one does when forced into a corner with no alternative but to succumb to unknown consequences. To submit so easily without attempting to change fate was not acceptable. It was sink or fight and to these few men there was no choice but to go down battling the scourge that had threatened their very existence. They quickly sought out the few firearms available. The grave circumstance had turned into a baleful response in hopes that enough applied measures could prevent a takeover. Was the shootout fated to be a lopsided affair in favor of the pirates and thus the crew would forcibly be taken captive? They were all about to find out. However meager the defensive attempt would be, it was their only hope.

Turbulent Waters Mr Peter Duysings Books

I thought it was both very entertaining and educational. Educational in that the author goes to lengths explaining certain aspects of SEAL ops that are interesting and much needed to thoroughly understand the "why" behind parts of the story. I look forward to more books by this offer. Great read in my opinion! F-16 Pilot, USAF

Turbulent Waters Mr Peter Duysings Books Reviews

Action packed thriller about piracy and anti-terrorism on the high seas. Author is very well versed in military tactics and weaponry. This novel is reminiscent of Clive Cussler maritime adventures.
Based on a true story of modern day pirates and Navy SEALS, Turbulent Waters fits well in the Military Thriller category. The book has great detail and behind the scenes scoop on military operations. It is not surprising that the author himself is a veteran. That realism comes through in the writing of the book.

With a title of Turbulent Waters, I expected to see some water on the cover, but you do get the feel that the book will be about Arab pirates and that was enough to draw me in. The overall formatting and editing of the book was good, but the story at times felt slow.

Overall, a great book for lovers of military thrillers. The fact that it was based on a true story made it definitely more appealing to me. Not only do you see behind the scenes in Washington, but learn a great deal about modern day pirates. I like the pacing that comes from a story that has parallel plot lines and that really helps propel the reader in this book.
Although the author indicates that the book is based on true events, it was surprising to me to not see any acknowledgements considering the various sub-plots, or smaller stories within the main story.

Not to give too much of the book away, the book weaves together the operations of merchant ship, pirates from the horn of Africa, the politicking that goes on in Washington along with a good deal dedicated to the US Military and how the soldiers and sailors operate.

The author integrates the various sub-plots fairly well thereby providing a good deal of excitement.

The author weaves in and out of the stories so that the reader never becomes bored or tires of a particular story-line. It gives the reader much to look forward to as they make their way into the book. This also makes the reader anxious at every turn of the page.

Right up to the action-packed conclusion, the story grows and grows as does the readers excitement and interest.

I did not find any spelling or grammar errors, which made the flow of reading quite easy. The book cover matches perfectly on the content inside, and is intriguing enough for a reader to pick it up with curiosity.

The reader will not be disappointed and the book is deserving of a 5-star rating.

Peter Duysings' novel, “Turbulent Waters,” is infused with the air of authenticity. Reading of the military maneuverings and inner workings of various agencies you are left with the distinct feeling the author has inside knowledge about the operational goings on of such things. This is an important distinction when writing of international terrorism, piracy, military intervention and the like, it seems infinitely important you at least give forth the impression you know of what you speak. Mr. Duysings is able to lift this stunning action adventure tale to the top of the genre by leaving little doubt he has done his research.

I will not give away too much but want to say the ending of the novel seems perfect; it does not lay down an all is well forever sequence, tying things up too perfectly. Today's world is a troubling, complicated place and Peter Duysings does not let us off the hook. You will love the excitement of the ride he takes you on. The inside feel of the operations and back room politicking are expertly brought forward. The back stories and make-ups of the Seals and modern day pirates and terrorists are fully realized. As heart stomping and action fueled as this smart thriller is, you still are able to believe it happened. The writing is crisp and intricate. The pleasure of “Turbulent Waters” is real.

This is based on a true story, and the author seems to have done sufficient research on the subject. I was looking forward to reading this book, something I haven't read about yet, it seemed very exciting and fast paced according to the blurb, but there were parts that until very close to the end didn't seem to have anything to do with the book at all, just seemed like the author was filling out and writing more pages for the book to be longer.

It starts very, very, well but then for quite some time just lags along without much going on until you get to the part of the pirate attack.

There are three sides to the story in the book, the pirate side,(which is far by the best, I enjoyed this part specially the terrorist side), the SEAL side and there is also a political side, these stories don't seem to have much to do with one another, and at the same time they do. I found them a little confusing. The political side was long winded and there was a lot of fluff to fill it out as with the SEAL side.

On a positive note the research on the SEAL side of the story in very good, there are explanations of each term which helps the reader understand what they mean, which in turn makes sense given the author's military background.

There is a huge potential for this book, it just needs some editing to cut out the fluff and the barter between the characters for it to “get” on with the actual story telling.

The ending was the most exciting part, full of action, nicely fast paced and it brought together the SEAL side and the pirate side.

The title and the cover have been well thought out.
Do not miss out on this newer author's offering. I could not put it down and would like another book right away
I completely enjoyed reading the book, Turbulent Waters. It had a great mixture of action, humor, and information to make it seem so realistice. great book
